Interview

Where are you in your testing journey?

I’ve been involved in testing for almost 30 years now, I’m still learning, still exploring and still sharing with other people.

The best bug you have ever found?

The Pickling List, we’d an option in the application I was testing to print picking lists for warehouse clerks, if the option wasn’t enabled you got an error letting the user know, the title bar as ‘Print Pickling List’.

It was in the wild for quite a few releases back in the day’s of fully scripted tests so it’s a great example of unintentional blindness and an argument in favour of exploring.

Advice you would give to Testers?

Never be frightened to ask questions, and never make assumptions, I once turned up at a test meetup because I’d assumed it was in the same place that had been for the past couple of years, the organisers had decided to try somewhere new around the corner instead, to make things worse my phone battery had ran out.

That was a lesson learned the hard way.

What does winning mean to you?

Bringing other people along for the ride, winning together is much better than winning alone.
